Safety Devices

Safety is important. Several people are sent the the hospitals every week from gate injurys, and an untold number of vehicles are damaged as well as gates close on them unexpectedly.

Photo-eyes

Omron E3K

In most cases where a photo-eye is not included with the operator (many now require thier own models in order to work) we recommend this one. It has a sturdy metal case and electrical options that mke it an ideal choise for commercial applications.

It includes a reflector and the beam is set to the reflecor and back.

Other brands an models also includ types which are active on both sides of a driveway, some including a laser beam to help with alignment.

Photo-eyes are nolonger just an option. The UL-325 specification now demands they be installed and monitored by the operator.

Safety loops

Direct burial Loops

We often install loops which are pre-made. These are either placed in a shallow ditch in the driveway or in set in place before concrete or asphalt in installed over them.

often up to four loops are installed. one to trigger the gate to open fro a touch free exit, anther three for safety with one on eithrer side of the gat and another under the swing areal of the gate.

in the case of existing concrete or asphalt driveways, a small notch is cut into the drivewys and the loop wire is installed in it then sealed with a polymer sealant intended.

Loop Detectors

Back at the operator the loop wires are connected to loop detectors which sense the change in the loops electrical characteristics due to a vehicle being present.

Some operators have detectors which plug into slots one thier circuit boards but free standing detctors are also availble.

Emergency Vehicle Access

Tomar Fire Strobe Dual Detector, with Beacon.

Single and dual strobe detectors are triggered by the strobe light of emergency vehicles allowing instant access. This is ideal for HOA's and provides the quickest way for them to enter.

The beacon on the one shown visually notifies first responders and nearby personnel that the gate is about to open. This added visual warning enhances situational awareness, reducing risks in high stakes emergency situations.

KNOX Switch.

Less expensive, but often included with a strobe detector is a KNOX switch. KNOX is a brand name of switches where the keys are only made available to Fire or police departments.

We recommend a KNOX switch be installed in every gate including single residences. But an alternative is to call the fire department and give them a gate code to keep on file ...a wise thing to do anyway.
